WHAT ARE KNITTED KNOCKERS????? Knitted Knockers are handmade breast prostheses for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast.
Traditional breast prostheses are usually expensive, heavy, sweaty and uncomfortable. They typically require special bras or camisoles with pockets and can't be worn for weeks after surgery. Knitted Knockers on the other hand are soft, comfortable, beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. Knitted Knockers can be adjusted to fill the gap for breasts that are uneven and easily adapted for those going through reconstruction by simply removing some of the stuffing.
There is a huge demand for Knitted Knockers that can't be met by any one group, but together we can provide for our local cancer treatment centers. The knockers MUST be made with APPROVED YARNS ONLY. The founders of Knitted Knockers did their research and determined the fibers that would meet all of their requirements; breathable, washable, light-weight, non-itchy and soft!
Wisconsin Wool Exchange has the approved yarns as well as patterns for both crochet and knit versions, needles and crochet hooks that you will need.
Knitted Knockers take only a few hours to make but make all the difference to the way a woman feels about herself.
The reward is a warmth in your heart that can't be measured.
Join us at Wisconsin Wool Exchange for this ON-GOING PROJECT to provide Knitted Knockers free of charge to our community.
WE ARE A DROP-OFF LOCATION FOR FINISHED KNOCKERS!!! Please drop off your finished knockers and if you have a pair, please tie them together or put in a bag together and indicate the size (or number of stitches). We will stuff them with approved stuffing and distribute to our local cancer treatment center once or twice a month.
Call or come in if you have questions or need help.
